INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTING MASTERCLASS

DESCRIPTION:

George Enescu National University of Arts from Iași and Conducting Teacher Dumitru Goia offer an intensive week-long course in orchestral conducting. Limited to maximum 11 active participants, the masterclass guarantees each participant 60 minutes of orchestra podium exposure, including public performance, in addition to 60 minutes of conducting practicum with piano duo and extensive score study. The course provides a great opportunity to not only work with an orchestra and teacher, but also to produce professional-quality videos, in rehearsal and concert. The program will be able to accommodate aspiring and practicing conductors at all stages of experience.

LOCATION:

The medieval city of Iași is a major cultural center of Romania. Situated 400 km north-east of Bucharest, the city is the fourth most populous city in Romania, a central transportation hub, and a popular tourist destination in Europe.

REPERTOIRE:

  1. Haydn – Symphony nr. 104 in D dur
  2. A. Mozart – Piano Concerto nr. 23 in A dur
  3. A. Mozart (C. F. Abel) – Symphony nr. 3 in Es dur

Participants will have the opportunity to rehearse any part of the program. Maestro Dumitru Goia will make final assignments for the performance.

SCHEDULE:

  • 25th of June, 2023 – Arrival in Iași, Romania;
  • 26th, 27th, 28th of June, 2023 – Piano Sessions and Score Study: daily 4-hr sessions with piano duo; additional score study and optional technique sessions;
  • 29th, 30th of June, 1st of July, 2023- Orchestra Sessions: daily 4-hr sessions with orchestra;
  • 2nd of July, 2023 – Dress Rehearsal and Concert: All participants will receive video and audio recordings (raw or edited) from front and back, as well as a large publicity poster.
  • 3rd of July, 2023 – Departure.

COST:

The cost includes all tuition and professional recording fees.

All Masterclass participants are responsible for their own transportation, accommodation and meals.

Application, Tuition & Recording – 500€

Passive Participant Tuition –25€, due upon arrival.

A deposit of 100€ is due by 1st of June, 2023. Deposits will be refunded only if the withdrawing participant’s place is filled by another participant. Final payment must be made upon arrival by 23rd of June, 2023.

ELIGIBILITY:

This masterclass is open to all conductors. There is no upper age limit. Applicants of varying levels of training and experience will be considered. A maximum of 11 applicants will be selected to participate.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

  2. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 5th of June, 2023.
  3. Deposit of 100€ must be paid by 10th of June, 2023.
  4. Final payment must be made upon arrival.
